About the

project

A lot of what we do is about simplifying things. It’s about taking the complex and whittling it down to its bare essentials.

Userback is the perfect example of our skill set matching directly to the intention of the client. They are all about simplifying and streamlining.

you can find me under the lights

“I like pretty stuff,” said Explanimate Designer/Animator Kelly Tan. “but pretty stuff with a purpose is like straight fire.”

Userback couldn’t have agreed more and so we set about understanding their product, their service and brainstorming how we could bring it to life.

“Simplicity only works if it is universal,” said Explanimate Creative Director Travis Hunt, “The imagery needed to be instantly recognisable and convey meaning or it just wouldn’t work.”

diamonds under my eyes

So we set about trialling and erroring the absolute pants off the visual ideas.

We didn’t just want something that “did the trick”, it needed to sing like Michael Cera in Superbad

turn the rhythm up

So with visuals that we wanted all locked in it was time to “turn the rhythm up” and make it gorgeous.

We spent time crafting elements and working on lighting, we played with colours and contrast and found a visual language that really started to connect.

wanna come along for the ride?

It was time to deliver and deliver we did, it came out looking like a hot guy at Melbourne Cup, absolutely gorgeous, but it was functional like a tramp stamp on a hot girl.
